Granite is a widespread, natural, pyrogenic, plutonic stone with granular tissue and acidic composition with great hardness. It belongs to the plutonium of igneous rocks because it was created by the solidification and crystallization of the magma inside the cortex at great depth, so it has a full-crystal, granular tissue. Its name comes from the Latin word granum, that is, grain, due to its granular texture. A plutonium rock, to be classified as granite, must contain astars, alkaline astars and quartz, but usually, besides the mandatory components, the granites contain ferrous silicate minerals (mica, amphibians, pyroxenes etc.). ) and syndromes (zirconia, apatite, titanite, etc.). Its composition also determines its color. It is mainly used as decorative material in buildings. Granite is divided into many species with two main groups: the plutonites, which on the rise of the magma from the interior of the earth did not come to the surface and deeply cooled under high pressure without escape of gases, and to the venous granites, coming from the a magma that did not come to the surface but formed veins that penetrated and cooled at relatively low atmospheric pressure and in a shorter time than plutonites after gas escapes. Depending on its mineralogical components, granite is divided into several subgroups. In Greece large quantities of granite exist in Macedonia, Thrace and volcanic islands of the Aegean. Due to its hardness, granite is widely used as decorative material. It is also used for the construction of special concrete, road construction and other building structures. After processing and grinding it is used for decorating buildings and mainly with the interior and exterior facade lining, also in the decoration of fireplaces, in kitchens and rarely on floors due to its exact price. Also, due to its hardness, it is used to make statues.
